A Guide to Financial Support For Energy Efficiency

A Guide to Financial Support For Energy Efficiency

As winter edges ever closer and temperatures start to fall, energy prices and how we can afford to keep warm are now very real concerns for many of us. You may be wondering what financial support you can get.

No matter where in the UK you live, depending on your personal circumstances, there are financial support options available to help you. From help to pay your energy bills to help to make your home more efficient.

This guide will focus on the latter, highlighting what government schemes that are out there. Which can help to make your home more energy efficient, ultimately saving you money on your energy bills.

ECO4 Scheme Free Funding

If you live in England, Scotland and Wales and are in receipt of any of the government benefits listed below. OR have a household income of less than £31,000, then you are likely to qualify for EC04 funding.

  • Pension Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Based ESA
  • Universal Credit
  • Income Support
  • Jobseekers Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Benefit (Subject to certain income based criteria)

Under the ECO (Energy Company Obligation) scheme, companies like Eclipse Energy are able to access funding to deliver energy efficiency measures such as insulation and heating upgrades to low-income households helping to reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

ECO4 takes a ‘whole house approach’ and does not focus on one particular home improvement. Instead, a surveyor looks at all the features of your house and can help you access several of the below measures to make the largest energy savings. In certain properties it is possible to receive 4 or even 5 of these measures at the same time, with no customer contribution.

The funding towards these measures will improve your homes’ energy efficiency, meaning you will require less energy to heat your home, protecting you against rising energy costs.

Great British Insulation Scheme Funding

If your home needs insulating, but you do not receive government benefits, there is now also a chance to get some funding to improve the energy efficiency of your home for free (or partially funded) through the new Great British Insulation Scheme.

The Great British Insulation Scheme is a new government energy efficiency scheme (previously called ECO+). The Ofgem administered scheme is designed to insulate the least energy efficient homes in Great Britain, to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce energy bills.

Whereas the ECO4 scheme offers grants for a wide range of home energy efficiency measures, the Great British Insulation Scheme focuses its grants purely on delivering lower-cost insulation measures. This will allow as many households as possible access to support much more quickly, with grants being mainly offered to those who haven’t previously received funding for improving their home’s energy efficiency. Homeowners, landlords, and private tenants may be eligible for the scheme.
