Eclipse Energy were contacted by a local customer who was looking to reduce their electricity bill. This was mainly due to current rising energy prices. However, they also wanted to make the switch to an electric vehicle in the near future. With an EV charger already installed in their home, they were looking to utilise solar power to charge the car. Ultimately reducing their costs as much as possible by incorporating solar energy and battery storage in their home.
Following on from an on-site survey and initial assessment, it was determined that the best solution was to use both the roof space on the main house and attached garage. This was to maximise the size of the array, paired with two Solax 5.8kWh batteries mounted next to the inverter within the garage itself. As the customer wanted to use as much of their energy as possible, this system would prioritise the house and the batteries before sending any energy back to the grid. Due to a large number of trees at the rear of the property, the front of the house was chosen as the most suitable location, in addition to the fact it was the most southerly facing.
What was installed?
The installed system will generate an estimated average of 4288kWh of electricity annually. Which is over 700kWh more than the typical house in the UK consumes, with a performance warranty of 20 years. At current energy prices, this will reduce the homeowners bills by a whopping over £30,000. This figure is set to rise even further with incoming energy price cap rises in 2023.
Over a year, this system will provide an average of 96% of the customers energy from solar. Each year this is saving 1.1 tonnes of C02 emissions alone. The CO2 savings over the lifetime of the system are the equivalent of avoiding 23 long haul flights, planting 206 trees or avoiding driving 20,000 miles.
