Calderdale Homeowners Begin Receiving Funded Insulation Measures

Homeowners across Calderdale have begun to take advantage of a new local authority scheme accessing fully funded insulation and home improvement measures.

Firstly, the initiative is a partnership between Calderdale Council and Better Homes Yorkshire. Secondly, the scheme is funded by the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Lastly, the work is being carried out by local energy efficiency experts, Eclipse Energy.

One recipient from Elland was one of the first to benefit from the measures. “We’re delighted with the work, the team at Eclipse were incredibly efficient and got everything done with no fuss”.

Through the scheme, homeowners meeting certain income-based criteria in Calderdale receive a fully funded renovation of their attic room. However, this is provided that it is already used as a permanent room. Positively, the renovation includes insulation, decorating and ventilation upgrades. Essentially, making the home more energy efficient while reducing the risk of damp and mould.

Steve Batty, Head of Sustainability at Better Homes Yorkshire said: “We’re delighted that Calderdale residents are beginning to reap the benefits of this work. The improvements made to Julie’s attic will make a real difference in reducing heat loss. First and foremost, this will keep her home warmer for longer. Ultimately saving money in the long run, as well as contributing towards a greener future.”

Funding is available for up to 200 homes in the region up to July. Interested applicants are encouraged to get in touch with local company Eclipse Energy. They are conducting surveys and installations of qualifying homeowners.

Mark Bannister, Managing Director of Eclipse, commented “Firstly, it’s a testament to the hard work of Calderdale Council. They have been so proactive helping people in the region. It wouldn’t be possible without the team at Better Homes Yorkshire. Secondly, we encourage anyone interested to get in touch with us as soon as possible. We want to prevent disappointment, as funding is limited”.

Cllr Scott Patient, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Resilience, said:  “I’m thrilled that the first Calderdale residents are benefitting from this fantastic scheme. Making their homes healthier, warmer and cheaper to heat. I encourage other low-income households with hard-to-heat homes to contact Eclipse Energy. To empathise, they can cut their energy bills and do their bit to reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change.”
